To our dearest compatriots here in the Rogue Valley:
We understand you need some clarification as to what the Occupy Movement is about. Contrary to what the media would have you believe, we are not all hippies, druggies, or anarchists. In fact, very few…say…1% of us are.
We are a group of concerned citizens who have taken offense to the treatment of our compatriots. Under the guise of economic survival the largest banks in the country have been given tax payers money with little-to-no accountability while millions of human beings have lost their homes, their jobs, and their hope. Jobs have disappeared, and those which exist do so in an unsustainable fashion with most people obtaining only part-time work. Public education has been cut, higher education costs have skyrocketed, and the media has pulled the wool over all of our eyes with divide, conquer, and distract.
The laundry list of issues we face cannot be covered in one pamphlet, which begs the question, why haven’t you joined us? Where is the patriotism which was once so alive in this country only ten years ago? We have been fighting an arguably invisible enemy for nearly ten years while we have allowed our country to succumb to greed and corruption. Now is the time to learn. Now is the time to awaken and become a patriot akin to the colonists who fought for their freedom.
Thomas Jefferson once said, “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” We here at Occupy Medford take this in a new, seemingly forgotten direction. We do not condone violence as some would have you believe, but we do feel you must shed your blood, your sweat, and your tears in order to remain free, and in this way will the tree of liberty remain lively. We have forgotten how much work freedom takes, expecting it to be provided for us as an unalienable right.
Now is the time, my dear compatriots, to put the shovel to the dirt in order to fill in the grave which we have dug for ourselves. Now is the time to learn, the time to get angry and demand a better life. We here at Occupy are focusing on local issues first, including foreclosures, community banks and credit unions, and the Oregon State Bank. We will work around the clock to serve this great country, thinking of our neighbors, friends, family, and countrymen before our own self-interests. This, in-and-of-itself already separates us from the politicians and the money-men which now control your future.
Join us, support us, become us.
Every Saturday in Alba Park from 12PM-3PM.
